I turned into a cat lady

  • by

My brother will probably laugh his ass off on this one but yes, I’ve turned into a cat lady. Having moved to Massachusetts, I am now the proud parent of two furbabies.. originally, just my husband’s – but now they’re MINE too! YAY.

I’ve never been an animal person. To be clear, its not that I don’t like animals – I just like the ones I own. I first had a fighting fish – given to me in my early twenties – but the first real pet I truly loved was my maltese called Princess. She truly made me a better person – less bitchy, more warm (or as warm as I can get). When Princess passed away, I was devastated. I truly blamed myself, for working too much, not noticing her failing health. She passed when I was at work, mom called to give me the bad news and I cried silently at my desk. From then on I decided that working that much (at the time) was not good – not for me, or the relationships I wanted to have and keep.

A year or so after, I got a yorkie I named Pepper. She filled my heart, she still does. I left her with my mom when I moved away as I know they both will keep each other company. I still miss her but I know she’s happy with my mom.

But now... I'm a cat lady

I didn’t expect to love these furballs as much as I did. I expected horrible cat pee smell everywhere, gag-inducing poop smell on cat litter, scratched clothes and bags, shoes with furballs, and the whole horror show. It wasn’t – far from it.

Look at that cute face! Beanie staring at me.

Luca, Beanie, and Sisu (who recently passed away) were adorable. Sure, they give me mean looks sometimes but hey – they’re cats, they’re supposed to be bitchy and not care. AND YET THEY’RE SO SWEET (in their own way).

Top 10 reasons why I love cats now

1. You don’t need expensive cat toys. And sometimes, you don’t have to buy them – they love the ones you don’t buy, like the beat up Amazon box or a smelly sock. ANYTHING can be a toy.

2. They can stay home alone all day and the house will be fine.

3. They give you someone to talk to. Sometimes they even listen. Most of the time they judge you for your questionable life choices.

4. You don’t have to take them outside to do their business. Oh what a relief!

5. They purr.

6. They give you a nice massage when they feel like it.

7. They’re entertaining. Wait for a bug or a bird to show up on the window and watch the cat go crazy. Or play with themĀ  using a red laser pen.

8. They greet you when you come home. Judging you and bitching about the empty cat dish.

9. They love you unconditionally…. as long as you feed them. See #9.

10. They know when you need an extra cuddle.
